Here at Blue Sunflour Bakeshop, we care a great deal about the environment. As our landfills grow to overflowing, forests are being cut down to harvest non-sustainable materials, and our air is full of methane emissions, it is critical that even small businesses like ours take the steps necessary to use materials that help rather than harm our planet.

Recyclable, compostable or biodegradable?

This is something we have been considering from the very beginning. Using compostable materials is the ideal choice because if they are properly disposed of, they will break down completely and can then be used to grow more resources. It has been challenging to find food-safe packaging that is completely compostable. The best option we have found yet is from a company based solely here in the United States. The boxes themselves are biodegradable and recyclable and the clear window film is made from compostable cellulose material. Better yet, all of the paper used is sourced from suppliers who are part of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

Still figuring it out.

We still do not have all of the answers and are still trying to figure out what works best for us. While we want was is best for the environment, we also need to find options that are food-safe and durable. Please be patient with us as we test out different options.
